Road Safety

I was just reading about road safety before we left home last week when I saw a motorbike accident. I know you can relate with me… everytime I saw a road accident, I get very fearful. Not really sure why though. When I was in college, we used to live along the highway. I saw lots of road accidents. I saw one 5-year old girl that was overrun by a 6-wheeler truck. It was aweful and pitiful at the same time. My mom had to give me alcohol to take away whatever I felt. I think it gave me a road phobia. Probably this explains why until now, I refuse to drive.

Accidents can happen. But of course, we have to do our part so we can avoid it. Better yet, we should get a motorhome insurance so that we can have something to spend if we need to send our vehicle for a repair or for fixing.

So what are the things to avoid road accidents?

1. Don’t drive when drunk. Or better yet, don’t drink alcohol at all.

2. Make sure the car is well oiled and you have enough petrol in your tank.

3. check all the tires before driving.

4. check that car mirrors are properly angled so you can see what and whos’s behind and beside you.

5. avoid car racing.

6. make sure you feel well when you drive.

We can just do our part.

Make Horse Riding Safe

I have ridden a horse when I was young. My father was assigned in a remote area somewhere I couldn’t remember. I was in my second year in high school then. The place was a mountainous area and guys were still gentlemen. So when people living in the area discovered that one of the soldier’s daughters were there, they came in the evening and brought some things to drink for my father and his friends. And they rode horses. I got excited to see them. I mean the horses. So I thought of asking my father to ask them if I could ride on one of their horses.

The next day, they came with a very tamed horse. It didn’t even know how to run. I rode on it for hours. I loved every moment of it. But of course, at the end of the day, I felt some pain in between my legs. I didn’t have proper attire when I rode a horse, that’s why.

So when riding a horse, what do we really need?

1. a good pair of breeches or equestrian clothing

2. riding boots

3. helmet

4. saddle

5. bridles

I think practice and good quality equestrian accessories will make it safe for horse riding.

Stay Safe

I buy and read Women’s Weekly magazine from time to time. It’s great to know some updates when it comes to fashion and latest trends. One thing I like most about it is that it offers a lot of helpful articles. The latest one I bought had articles on safety tips on streets and at home. Here’s Daphne Iking’s take on staying safe:

  • Don’t stinge on safety. Afraid of lonely carparks? Consider valet services at hotels and malls.
  • Carry a safety device. A super loud alarm and even an umbrella or walking stick can be used for self-protection.
  • Be alert at all times. Never walk around talking or texting on your mobile phone. You make yourself an easy target for snatch-thiefs because you’re too engrossed to respond fast enough when they act.
  • Trust your instincts. You don’t want to get into the lift alone with that man… trust your instincts. When your gut feeling tells you something is not right, run!
  • Prevent Crime from Happening. Even if you know martial arts, you may not be alert enough to use your skills on the spur of the moment. So it’s better to take precautions to avoid danger, rather than assume you can handle the situation when it happens.
