A Pet?

I got asked by my daughter if we could buy or get a puppy for pet. I told her: “Let me think about it first because getting a pet entails responsibility.” Now, I am seriously considering the idea. Of course, I have to check out www.dogtraining.org first to see what to I can do before having a pet.

Getting a pet is really fun. Also, it might be a good way of teaching the kids of taking responsibility. So, getting a pet is not such a bad idea. However, though the pet will be in your kid’s care, you will still have to contribute on how the pet will be trained. Getting a pet and not training them could spell disaster in your home. So you better be sure that the pet gets trained as soon as possible.

So what are the things to consider before getting a pet?

  • Make sure your house is pet-ready
  • Read all you can about taking care of pets
  • Know the veterinarian in your area
  • Be ready financially as pets do need some kind of maintenance
  • Make sure you and your family enjoy having a pet!

Caring for your Kitchen

Clean_Kitchen_5483355_std

If they are to be safe and hygienic places, kitchens, like bathrooms, require daily cleaning which I am guilty about coz I only clean a few times a week. But of course, I make sure the sinks are cleaned up daily. Clean worktops and surfaces with a damp cloth dipped in bicarbonate of soda (baking soda). Don’t use harsh abrasives, however, because these will scratch the surfaces, enabling bacteria to grow undisturbed in the scratches, and also avoid using household cleaners that contain bleach because these may at least taint food and can be poisonous.

Note: kitchen above is my dream kitchen. :)

food-hygiene tips

cleaning-vegetablesAlthough we often worry about food poisoning when we eat in restaurants or order food from take-away outlets, we are more likely to become sick as a result as a result of our own lapses in hygiene. It’s vital to observe the following basic food-hygiene measures:

  • wash your hands before and after preparing raw meat, poultry and fish
  • don’t use the same chopping board when cutting up raw and cooked meat.
  • bring food to the boil quickly and cook it thoroughly.
  • don’t keep food warm for long periods, but instead, eat it as soon as possible after it’s been cooked.

make your home cozy

cozy living room

my husband and i were talking just now about the house we’re living in now. it doesn’t look as cozy as our apartment. the wall painting is white and it rather looks plain against our white couch. in our apartment, my husband painted different colors on the wall. he combined 9 different colors, which made the house really looked cozy, especially that we used yellow light fixtures. here in our house now, although we use yellow lamps and lights, the house still looks plain. i mean, it looks cozy in a certain degree, just not as cozy as our apartment. we don’t want to invest and change the wall painting because we only have 1.5 more years to live here. we thought it’s not a good idea to do that. sometimes, home lighting does make a difference, even with white colored-walls, but it’s best to combine the color of the lights and the color of the wall.  it doesn’t matter if we have white light for our ceiling light fixtures because sometimes, i just need a bright light whenever i need to do something. i am not an interior designer, but somehow, i know what effect the colors of the house do. right color will definitely set a right mood. anyway, if you’re looking for a good lighting fixtures, just visit www.farreys.com. you will find an array of lightings which suit your needs.

house design tips

house designthe most important thing to have in mind when you’re designing your house is to make it as cozy as you can. even in a budget we can do this.

  1. choose the right wall colors that go with the furnitures. we cannot have a blue wall and have an earth colored furnitures, can we? worse if you paint your wall with light blue and dark brown. it’s like mixing water and oil. impossible. the best is to combine warm colors together.
  2. lightings would make a difference. i use yellow lights for my house, from lamp shades to wall lights. it really looks beautiful especially at night.
  3. simplicity is the key. don’t put too many things in one place. a living area with lots of things around could ruin a cozy look.
  4. if you like hosting dinners, choose one of those dining tables that would match the theme of your house. i like earth colors. most of the things in my house are earth colors. so my dining table would be wooden and earth colored. it would really be best if you know where to find dining room tables. it saves so much headache and effort to find good ones.
  5. if you have glass walled house, glass tops would be the best for tables, too.
  6. scented candles can be a great addition to a well designed house. so don’t forget to lit up a few when you want a real cozy house.

rice water

water is very important, we all know that. we could use it for therapy for some diseases. if we want to lose weight, we drink lots of water and it helps detoxify the fats in our system. water hydrates the skin too. there are just too many benefits of water. one thing i discovered is that the water that you rinse the rice with can be used for gardening. just use the rice water to water the plants and see your plants become greener and healthier.

How To Maintain Your Floor?

There are different types of floorings. So depending on what type of flooring, that’s how you maintain it. What types of floorings we can use?

1. wooden floor – this is pretty sensitive, especially whe you move in and out with your furniture. One must take extra care not to scratch the wooden tiles.

2. marble tiles – Marble tile is a wonderful choice for homeowners because of the varied designs that come naturally with this kind of flooring. There are two methods in maintaining marble tiles:One, clean your marble floor daily with a neutral pH cleanser and water, making sure to dry quickly after. Two, dirt and grime tracked in from daily traffic should be cleaned or wiped away immediately. Doing these two things will definitely sustain the beauty of your marble floor, letting you and your family enjoy the charm it brings to your home

3. porcelain tiles – As with every interior surfacing material, porcelain tiles require nominal care in order to maintain a satisfactory appearance and acceptable sanitation.

Make Your House Cozy

There’s nothing like a cozy house. You feel warm and comfortable. When you go to other people’s house and the house is cozy, you would feel really at home. But how do we make a cozy house? There are many ways:

1. Yellow lightings have a mellow effect. We use a lot of these at home. My boy, everytime he wantshis house to look nice, he would turn on the yellow lights.

2. Keep things at a minimum. As a family house, this is a great challenge as you tend to buy a lot of things for the kids and sometimes those things are left cluttering around the house. But of course, we can teach the kids how to keep their things after playing with them.

3. Keep the kitchen clean. It’s always disgusting to come to a dirty and oily kitchen. My kitchen is my favorite place to clean. Although sometimes dishes are left unwashed in the sink… but hey… there are good days and bad days, right? HJaving a good faucet is actually a bonus. And this reminds me to check about the Grohe faucet.

4. Make a statement. Your house says it a lot. Your house is you. It represents you. So make sure that your house reflects who you are… may it small or big.

5. Above all, and I will always say this.. If God resides in your house, you not only make your house cozy, you make it a home, too… not just for you and family… but for others who come and visit you.
