Things to Do

Hubby and I were discussing in things to do before going to that youth camp. We didn’t wanna go there looking like uncle and aunty. You know, when young people see you having bulging tummy and grey hair, they will automatically call you uncle or aunty, right? Especially if you’re coming from an Asian perspective. And so, we don’t wanna do that. We thought of some things to do before the camp:

1. Lose weight – which I am trying to do now. I probably need to do more research on the best diet pills so I can probably include in my losing weight regime.

2. Exercise – which has been in our list forever. Will have to prioritize this and we have to start as soon as we can.

3. Do something with my hair. No further discussions.

It would be good to be looking young and energetic when working with the youths, I think.

Healthy Lifestyle

Everybody aims to have a healthy lifestyle. Some people are more determined than the others though. Determination plus execution are very good combination to achieve a healthy lifestyle. It’s a wast of time if we are only determined and not doing anything. It’s like contradicting the determination. Anyways, there are many things to do to keep a healthy lifestyle. One of them is to keep our weight in the normal body mass index. If we’re within our bmi, we don’t need to take some weight loss pills. We just maintain our healthy food intake. And always to take things in moderation.

When Losing Weight Becomes Unhealthy

One of the reasons we wanna lose weight is to become healthy. Some people it’s a necessity. It’s not good if you’re overweight. It can cause a lot of problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, obesity, etc. When this happens, one doesn’t have any choice but to watch out for their health and diet.

Some people do the wrong way. So instead of losing weight to become healthy, they lose weight and end up being unhealthy.

My sister tried the crash diet. She almost died.

So what is the healthy way to lose weight?

1. Exercise. There are many ways to exercise. One is to run/jog, either on treadmills, or outside the house; cycling either on ellipticals or bicycles, taebo, pilates, etc.

2. Eat small portions and not to totally cut back on food.

3. Eat more fruits and vegetables, or healthy food in general.

4. Drink lots of water. 8 glasses a day is highly recommended.

5. Stay away from junk food.

It’s very healthy to do these… which I feel guilty about coz I only talk about losing weight but never get to act on it.

Rectal Bleeding

I’m not sure why… but when I woke up this morning and went to the toilet, I saw some blood on my underwear. I thought I was having period again but it smelled a bit aweful. And when I wiped, I realized that the blood was coming from my anus. I checked online about it… and yes, I was having a rectal bleeding. I’m not quite sure yet what to make of it… I saw some possible horrible symptoms. I am hoping it’s not that bad. It is quite scary.

When I walk my son to school, I felt a bit of abdominal pain and some cramps. Really hoping it won’t be that bad.

I am thinking of possible reasons of this rectal bleeding: drinking lots of coke? eating instant noodles so much? Would taking diet pills can cause this (even though it’s one of those which is on top diet pills)?I’m sure not. Let me look more into it. Whatever findings I can find, I am going to blog about it.

Celery

Celery is becoming my favorite snck nowadays. I love it dipped in thousand island dressing. I tried giving to Samantha to bite and I was surprised that she liked it too. Celery for a snakc is very healthy. There is just a lot of health benefits a celeray offers. It could work as an appetite suppressant as well. I have noticed that if I eat it before meals, I would lose appetite to eat. It’s a surprising discovery. I don’t eat it all the time though so I still eat a lot. But I really noticed that everytime I take a bite of celery before meals, I wouldn’t wanna eat something else already.

essential oils

i am an avid user of essential oils. it has such great benefits when it comes to well-being. my number one favorite is the lavender essential oil. it helps me relax and sleep well. another thing that is good to consider if you are married is the ylang ylang essential oil. it does enhance or awaken your senses and it does help a lot with your spouse spend your cozy nights together. but of course, when using essential oils, one must be careful, especially when one is pregnant. there are quite a few essential oils that are a no-no to pregnancy. so better do your assignment and find out which ones are for who and for what before using essential oils. i go to body shop to buy my essential oils. this way, i am sure that the product i am using is not a fake or not too diluted.

The Curious Case of My Mom's Health

My mother has been suffering from Rheumatoid arthritis since her early 40′s. The cause of this disease is not totally known. Some people would say it’s because when the hands or feet are tired and you wash them up, you’d surely get RA in the future. I would like to believe it to be an old wives’ tale because it doesn’t have a scientific explanation.
I really pitied my mom because I saw how she suffered. She used to sew dresses for me… but now she couldn’t because the moment she starts putting her hand on the sewing machine, she would start to feel the pain. And she became very grumpy and grouchy everytime she felt the pain. To me, she was never the same again. I didn’t know that arthritis could indeed affect people emotionally, mentally and physically.
What really is Rheumatoid Arthritis? As researcher as I was, I turned to the internet to see more about it the moment my mom was diagnosed of this kind of disease. And according to wikipedia.org, is a chronic, systemic inflammatory disorder that may affect many tissues and organs, but principally attacks the joints producing a inflammatory synovitis that often progresses to destruction of the articular cartilage and ankylosis of the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis can also produce diffuse inflammation in the lungs, pericardium, pleura, and sclera, and also nodular lesions, most common in subcutaneous tissue under the skin. Although the cause of rheumatoid arthritis is unknown, autoimmunity plays a pivotal role in its chronicity and progression.
My mom was prescribed some medicine like Celebrex, Prednisone, and Plaquenil… but after years of taking these medicine, we realized she’s still suffering from RA. We almost blamed her doctor for giving her wrong medicine. There were in fact some side effects which truly disappointed us. Her kidney was, in fact, affected. Now she’s got complications not only she’s suffering from RA… she’s got problem in her kidney as well. But actually, as I have searched further, there is really no known treatment that can cure this disease. There are of course some treatment that can alleviate symptoms and/or modify the disease process.

Now everytime I see ads for these treatment (like Enbrel, Arencia, Humira, and Remicade), I become very cynical. They only talk about the benefits. They never mention any side effects! And it truly hurt people. People would see the ads, buy the medicine thinking it could alleviate the pain… but at the end of the day, people suffer more because of its side effects. I just wish there is a regulation for all the ads to say the benefits and at the same time, the side effects so that people are warned before using the treatment.

Actually we have tried some herbal medicine for her. And it truly worked! Nature’s way is a lot better compared to the synthetic ones. Now everytime my mother feels the pain, she would staright away go for the herbal medicine. What are the herbs that can treat RA? There are just sooo many. In fact, you can even find them in your garden. My parents love gardening and my dad would plant some herbs in the garden. So now they’re using them to treat not only RA but other diseases as well.

We have angelica in the garden. Angelica is an herb that has been used in European folk medicine since antiquity. It can be used to treat arthritis. The Western variety of angelica has 12 anti-inflammatory constituents, ten antispasmodic (muscle relaxant) constituents, and five anodyne (pain-relieving) ones. The Chinese sometimes use their native variety of the plant (Angelica sinensis) for the same purpose. The Chinese species is sold in North America under the names dang gui or dong quai.

How to prepare it? Place 1 tablespoon of the cut roots of either species of angelica in 1 pint of water and bring to a boil. Cover and boil for two minutes. Remove from heat and let stand, covered, until the water cools to room temperature. Strain and drink the tea in 3 doses during the day for two to three weeks at a time. Then, take a break for seven to ten days and start the treatment again if desired.

Now we don’t need to spend a lot to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis. We go the nature’s way. We can be sure of its effectivity… with ZERO side effects!

Health Benefits of Celery Juice

There are various health benefits dervied from celery and its juice. The medical virtues of celery were first described by the Greeks Discorides and Pliny. In the early middle ages celery juice was very beneficial for curing ailments such as stones, constipation, menstrual problems and for health disorders of the liver and gall bladder.
The green leaves and stem and the bulbous root of celery are all extremely rich in active ingredients that make celery a very important medicinal plant and very beneficial to health. There is a well balanced content of the basic minerals, vitamins and nutrients, but in addition there are important concentrations of plant hormones and the essential oils that give celery its strong and characteristic smell. These oils have a specific effect on the regulation of the nervous system, and have a great calming influence. It is the presence of the essential oils which makes celery special. These are also found in the seeds and, if available, they too can be added to the juice.

Celery is used for its strong stimulating and beneficial effect on a weak sexual system, but as is usual with plant therapies the normally active person does not have to fear an uncontrollable upsurge. Plant therapy tends to make the system normal. Like beet there is also a general health tonic effect.

The strong diuretic (water removing) powers of celery enable it to be used in the control of health problems such as arthritis and rheumatism. Sufferers cannot have too much and may consume the vegetable cooked or raw, or in juice form which is the most health effective treatment of all.

A tablespoonful of honey in celery juice, sipped slowly, will very effectively reduce the appetite if taken before a meal, and makes a delightful drink. You can take the same mixture as a nightcap when it will help you to relax into a soothing and restful sleep.

Those who take the juice who have in the past suffered from a tendency towards stones in the gall bladder or the kidneys usually find that these painful deposits do not form again. It seems likely that this effect is related to the anti-arthritic properties of the juice.
