Acne is just a nightmare. I used to have those when I was in college… days when I was on my most insecure stage. It made me even more insecure having acne on my face. What more, I didn’t know how to treat it before and couldn’t afford to see dermatologist for treatment. What is acne, by the way? And what’s the cause of acne?
According to wikipedia, acne, or acne vulgaris is a skin disease caused by changes in the pilosebaceous units (skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland). Severe acne is inflammatory, but acne can also manifest in noninflammatory forms. Acne lesions are commonly referred to as pimples, spots, zits, or bacne.
Causes of acne include:
- Genetic history – This is so unavoidable as it runs in the family.
- Hormonal activity – which includes menstrual cycles and puberty. During puberty, an increase in male sex hormones called androgens cause the glands to get larger and make more sebum.
- Stress
- Exposure to certain chemical compounds
